What is Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure designed to reshape or resize the nose for aesthetic and functional enhancement. As the central feature of the face, the nose plays a significant role in overall facial harmony and confidence. Many individuals seek rhinoplasty to refine their appearance, while others undergo the procedure to correct breathing difficulties caused by structural issues such as a deviated septum.
Types of Rhinoplasties
There are two primary surgical approaches to rhinoplasty: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. The choice between these techniques depends on the complexity of the procedure and the desired outcome.
- Open Rhinoplasty
- This method involves making an incision along the columella—the soft tissue between the nostrils. The nasal skin is then lifted, providing the surgeon with enhanced visibility and precision. Open rhinoplasty is often recommended for complex cases or revision surgeries requiring detailed structural adjustments.
- Closed Rhinoplasty
- In this technique, incisions are made inside the nostrils, allowing the surgeon to reshape the nose without external scarring. Closed rhinoplasty is less invasive, resulting in a quicker recovery and reduced swelling, making it a preferred option for patients requiring minor refinements.
- 3D Imaging in Rhinoplasty
- Advanced 3D imaging technology is used to plan rhinoplasty procedures, offering patients a visual representation of potential surgical outcomes. This tool helps individuals explore different options and provides surgeons with a precise roadmap for achieving the desired results. While 3D imaging enhances predictability, actual post-operative results may vary slightly due to individual healing responses.
- Open Rhinoplasty
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
– Improves nasal function and breathing
– Enhances facial balance and symmetry
– Boosts self-confidence and self-esteem
– Corrects structural issues such as a deviated septum
Day 1
On the morning of your procedure, your patient coordinator will pick you up and transfer you to the hospital. You will have a consultation with your surgeon and medical tests to confirm your suitability for surgery. Once cleared, the procedure will take approximately one to three hours. You will stay overnight at the hospital for monitoring if needed.
Day 2
After a post-operative check-up, you will be discharged and transferred to your hotel to continue resting and recovering.
Days 3-5
You are advised to rest, but once you start feeling better, you may explore the city at a relaxed pace. Avoid strenuous activities to ensure proper healing.
Day 6
You will have a final check-up with your surgeon. Your cast will be removed, and you will receive instructions on post-operative care. Since dissolvable stitches are used, there is no need for removal. You will be cleared to travel home.
Day 7
On your departure day, our driver will provide VIP transfer service to the airport, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey home.
Who is an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is suitable for individuals who want to refine the shape or size of their nose for aesthetic reasons or improve nasal function due to breathing difficulties. Candidates should be in good health and have realistic expectations about the results.
What should I expect during my consultation with the surgeon?
During your consultation, the surgeon will assess your concerns, discuss your goals, and determine the best approach for your needs. Your medical history will be reviewed to ensure you are a suitable candidate. The surgeon will explain the procedure, potential scarring, and recovery process. If necessary, markings may be made on your nose to plan the surgery. You will also receive guidance on post-operative care and preparation.
Should I bring a friend with me to my consultation?
While our dedicated patient coordinators and nurses will support you throughout your journey, having a trusted friend or family member with you can provide additional reassurance and help you absorb important information.
What are the risks associated with rhinoplasty?
As with any surgical procedure, rhinoplasty carries some risks, including swelling, bruising, infection, temporary numbness, or breathing difficulties. Your surgeon will discuss how these risks can be minimised during surgery and recovery.
How soon can I see the final results after rhinoplasty?
Initial improvements are visible within a few weeks, but full results typically become apparent after several months once all swelling has subsided.
How long does a rhinoplasty procedure take?
The procedure usually takes between one and three hours, depending on the complexity of the surgery and whether additional corrections are needed.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
The procedure is performed under anaesthesia, so there is no pain during surgery. Afterwards, mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising are normal, but pain can be managed with prescribed medication.
How long is the recovery period after rhinoplasty?
Most patients recover within two weeks, with noticeable improvements in swelling and bruising. However, full healing may take several months. Strenuous activities should be avoided for at least four to six weeks.
When can I return to work after rhinoplasty?
Most patients feel comfortable returning to work within one to two weeks, depending on their healing progress and the nature of their job.
Will I have visible scars after rhinoplasty?
Surgeons make incisions strategically to minimise visible scarring. Open rhinoplasty involves a small incision along the columella, while closed rhinoplasty keeps incisions inside the nostrils, leaving no visible scars. Over time, any external scars fade and become barely noticeable.
Will rhinoplasty change my facial appearance significantly?
Rhinoplasty enhances facial harmony by refining the nose’s shape and proportions. The goal is to create a balanced, natural-looking result that complements your features rather than drastically altering your appearance.
How long do the results of rhinoplasty last?
Rhinoplasty provides permanent results, as the structural changes made to the nose do not reverse. While natural ageing may cause subtle changes over time, the improvements achieved through surgery remain long-lasting.
Can I combine rhinoplasty with other procedures?
Yes, many patients choose to combine rhinoplasty with treatments such as chin augmentation or septoplasty to achieve a more balanced facial profile and improved nasal function.
What should I do to prepare for rhinoplasty?
Preparation may include avoiding certain medications, maintaining a healthy diet, and stopping smoking to optimise healing. Your surgeon will provide specific guidelines to follow before surgery.
How much does rhinoplasty cost?
The cost of rhinoplasty depends on factors such as the type of procedure, the complexity of the surgery, and any additional treatments tailored to your needs.
